How to Install a TikTok Pixel on Shopify

Today we are showing you how to install your TikTok Pixel to your Shopify store.

In the past, you may have heard me talk about our sales accelerator program, which is a program we've created to help online store owners generate more consistent and scalable sales online. Before we figured out the sales accelerator process, we were running ads and praying that we would get purchases from our clients. The link to the Sales Accelerator program can be found here

The goal is that once you watch this video, you know exactly how to install the TikTok Pixel and set yourself up for success when you're using TikTok ads.

So first, you'll need to make sure that you have a TikTok ads manager created. Make sure that you start with this, because TikTok ads manager won't be able to create your pixel or your advertisements if you don't have that set up.

Installing Website Pixel Code

So if you have never been here before, go to www.ads.TikTok.com

This is going to be the main page that you're going to be at. So even when you click the homepage, it's going to take you to this dashboard page. If you're one who has run ads before on something like Facebook, then this may be a little bit similar for you. This may actually be a little bit easier, but we’re going to go ahead and walk you through.

The first thing that you want to do is go to Assets at the top of the screen and then you want to create an event.

Once we get to the event, you can have an app as well, but for this we are talking specifically about a website pixel.

This website pixel is a piece of code, it's a piece of data that's going to track visitors to go to your site. So when you're creating ads and somebody watches your ad and then takes an action on your website, TikTok gets information and says, “oh, wow, this ad performed well to this type of person. I'll show it to more people like them.” It will also give you actionable data to figure out if TikTok is worth your investment long term in your business.

So go to Website Pixel and click Manage.

We already have a few set up so we’re going to go ahead and set up another one here. To do that we are going to click on Create Pixel.

When the next screen pops up, you can choose from two options. We think that what you would want to do is install it manually. There are third party apps, but we’re going to tell you how we've been doing it and how we think you should do it to make better results.

First you want to give it a Pixel Name, then click on Manually install the code. Then click next.

Don't be intimidated by the fact that this is a piece of code, it is code specific to your account.

Copy the text and make sure you have downloaded the TikTok pixel helper.

If you're familiar with the Facebook pixel helper, it will tell you if it's installed correctly. So grab the code and then go over to Shopify. We are going to install it at totally90skid.com.

You’re going to go to your Online Store on the left hand side.

Next, in the Themes Section you’ll go to Actions and then go down to edit code. Again, don't be intimidated by the fact that we have a piece of code here.

Go to theme liquid and you can scroll down, but we are actually going to type it in. You can click command F or control F and type head.

Basically what you want to do is make sure that this piece of code is put on before the head of your website. So find where it says head, not header.

Place your cursor in front of the < symbol and hit enter and then paste in your copied code.

Click Save in the upper right hand corner.

Now that it's saved there, you want to make sure you go down to Settings in the bottom left corner. There's another place you want to make sure that it's installed

Adding Code to Shopify Checkout

Once in Settings, you’ll want to go to Checkout because you want to track purchases there.

In the Order Processing section, there's a spot down at the very bottom: additional scripts.

Just do command V or control V to paste it or paste it in the box, then click Save in the upper right corner.

So now that it's saved, you have everything set up correctly on your Shopify Store and it should be live.

Complete TikTok AdsManager Set Up

Now you want to go back to your events manager in TikTok AdsManager and complete set up and rule.

Since this is e-commerce, click the e commerce events.

You can label the Event Name however you like, but if you hover over the question mark, it says that “Event names are customized based on user behavior. “

Again, you can add information in here if you like. You can put add to cart, you can put purchase, it does not matter. That's completely up to you what you want in the event type.

You do want to track every event so make sure all of those are selected.

Once you are done on that page you will click Next.

Instead of doing click events, since Shopify is going to be the same type of URL, for most of the way that you set it up, you're going to want to use destination URL so click on that.

Make sure you have the URL in the box and click update.

On the right there are some more things you can do. Page View is going to be pretty much the same as the Product Details Page View. However, on the Product Details, make sure that you add a page browsing rule so that it contains the word “products.” Then click save

Next is Add to Cart. Again, click on Destination URL, then add a rule and make sure to add the word cart. Click save.

Finally there is Place an Order. Same process as the other two, choose Destination URL, add page rule. For this, we are going to have it say “thank_you.” This will then actually take them to the thank you page, which means that they've already placed an order or purchased.

When you are all completed with those tasks, click Complete in the bottom right corner.

Now that we've added these successfully, we can actually go in and edit these, if you like, it’s up to you. For us, we have the Page View, Product Details Page View, Add To Cart and Place An Order.

So since it's been added successfully, we also want to make sure that you can go up to the Pixel Self Test Tool, it’s icon looks like a diagonal infinity symbol. We can find one pixel. So totally90skid has one pixel installed. Event triggering, there has been zero from TikTok because we do not have any ads set up for that yet.

So again, the hardest part here is going to be installing your pixel as far as the code. But again, it's copy and paste, so just make sure that you just copy from the events manager, copy and paste.

Again, this is page view, product details, add to cart, place an order, you can name them however you like, you can go back through here again if you like. 'Add to cart', you can label this again as add to cart if you like, and you can also change the page URL. It contains whatever that may be for you so you can customize and track the assets however you'd like.
